Whats on offer for artists in residence?

The Animal Farm currently has studios or workspaces, and an outside workshop used for welding. Electricity and water are both available.
Accommodation for the artist selected would be provided. They will have room and board at the Animal Farm as agreed upon.
Local transport:
Public transport is very close by and inexpensive.  The Studios truck can also be used for material collection, but needs to be booked a week in advance and the artist in residence should have an international driver’s license (where applicable).
The following amenities are available
●    Bathroom, Lounge area, Internet access, Telephone,
●    Mobile reception, Television, Radio, Bedding.
Non-financial support  
The artists in residence will be introduced to various local art organizations and events during their residency. They will also be assisted with finding tutoring work during their residency.
The Animal Farm Studios are located in a Rural (Zvimba) area as well as in an Urban (Chitungwiza)environment. As one will have board at the Animal Farm Studios, meals would be provided for. The artist in residence is required to have basic English for communication purposes. Artists in residence are responsible for the cleaning of their work and living spaces.

When will residencies be available?

The residency programme commences at the beginning of February each year for two artists, continues for 2 years and ends in December of the 2nd Year, making them ongoing intakes.
Expectations on the artist
●    Studio times
Artists are expected to be in the studio at least two weeks out of a month. Absence from the studio should be reported in writing.
●    Report and evaluation
At the end of the residency each artist is required to write a report and evaluate the programme
●    Create new work for exhibition
Artists are expected to create work for a presentation at the end of the residency.
They would also be required to donate an art piece, decided on by the artist and the facilitators for their permanent art collection.
Criteria -  artist selection,
●    the artist should be able to communicate ideas clearly,
●    the artist should have strong portfolio,
●    the artist should have a comprehensive cv,
●    the artist may have references where applicable
Application criteria
The young, talented and underprivileged are strongly encouraged to apply, as they are the main focus of the residency programme.

Partnering Organizations or individuals would have various opportunities within the community and the nation as a whole. Opportunities for Partners would include but not limited to:
●    Increase visibility to a developing community
●    Play an active role in the education of artists in residence.
●    Exposure to new and young talent
●    Participate in the establishment of a world class art centre and residency programme in a developing country
●    Play an active role in educating the community on contemporary art and culture.
●    Play an active role in developing sustainable infrastructure which they would be accredited for.

Who we Are

The expansion of the Animal Farm Residency programme, will allow our programme to expand into new areas mainly :-
●    Bringing a new dimension to the Zimbabwean art community as it would combine art, architecture, food and culture at an international level.
●    The capacity to cater for international artists in residence, guest mentors and activities.
●    Exposure of the Zimbabwean community to contemporary art and modern architecture, as well as enhance creative and artistic skills of artists in residence.
●    Job creation through the construction of various infrastructure components.
